About the Role

Are you a software engineer who already builds using AI every day (agents, RAG, LLM tooling) and wants to own a production AI platform end to end at a $10B+ private credit investment firm in Midtown Manhattan? My client, a mid-size private credit firm, is adding the second engineer to its AI data platform team: a net-new seat, not a backfill, reporting directly to the engineer who built the platform now used across the firm. If you are ready to be the person who builds and ships them into production for a firm that will actually use them, this is the role for you. What's the Job? My client has built a production AI platform that supports the firm's investment process including automated investment memo generation, due diligence questionnaire (DDQ) automation, and retrieval over complex financial documents. The business case is document volume: the firm may receive thousands of documents from a company it is underwriting a loan for, and the platform has to read them, summarize them, extract what matters, and generate new documents from what it finds. You will be the team's second engineer, working alongside its lead and directly with investment, investor relations, and operations professionals. Day to day you will: Own and extend production AI systems, including the investment memo pipeline, DDQ automation, and the RAG infrastructure over financial documents. Build provenance tracking, source attribution, and review workflows so investment professionals can verify generated output against source documents. Build and maintain the platform's agent infrastructure: harnesses, skills, subagents, and tool integrations. Run projects end to end: design, implementation, deployment, and ongoing production support. Translate the workflows of non-technical stakeholders into tools they will actually rely on. Compensation Base salary of $200,000–$250,000, commensurate with experience, plus a discretionary bonus Fully paid health, dental, and vision premiums, including dependents Unlimited PTO, within reason Qualifications 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience with strong fundamentals in one or more of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Rust, or Go. There is flexibility on years for an exceptional engineer with a strong track record of shipping. Minimum: You use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar) as your primary development mode and run development end to end through them including writing, testing, quality, and deployment, with strong judgment about verifying what the model produces. Better: You have also built AI tools for end users, such as chatbots or LLM-driven automation of business processes. Best: You have built the platform itself: RAG infrastructure and data ingestion, and the agent layer that sits around the model. A demonstrated record of independently designing, building, and shipping production software. Financial services or another document-heavy, compliance-sensitive domain is preferred; vector databases, document parsing, and Anthropic/OpenAI agent SDKs are a plus. Genuinely strong verbal and written communication. This is a 50-person firm and you will work directly with investment professionals and the COO. No finance background is required, but this is a finance culture rather than a startup culture, and you should want that. This is an engineering role. It is not a fit for data scientists or quantitative researchers/analysts. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. My client is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa now or in the future. Location New York City, five days a week in the office, with work-from-home Fridays in the summer and flexibility around holiday weeks. Who are They? My client is a private credit investment firm with more than $10B in assets under management, providing bespoke credit solutions to stakeholders and management teams of U.S. middle-market companies that need capital for growth, acquisitions, operational challenges, or financial distress. The firm has 50 employees and is currently raising its fourth fund. The hiring manager spent his career in machine learning at a leading AI software company and a global bank before joining roughly two and a half years ago, and he built the internal platform this role will help scale. The firm has had no voluntary turnover in five years. To learn more, apply here today or email me at: Matt@Stabilesearch.com . Show more Show less
