AI Engineer | San Francisco (Onsite) I'm currently partnering with a well-funded, high-growth AI startup in San Francisco that is building an ambitious product at the intersection of AI, automation, and enterprise software. The team is tackling a complex problem that impacts thousands of businesses, using modern AI technologies to fundamentally rethink how work gets done. Following significant customer adoption and strong growth, they're expanding their engineering team and looking for exceptional builders who want to work on challenging, high-impact problems. The Role They're looking for an AI Engineer to help turn cutting-edge foundation models into reliable, production-ready product experiences. This is an applied AI role focused on shipping real products rather than training models from scratch. You'll work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to build intelligent features that customers use every day. What You'll Be Doing Building AI-powered product features using modern LLMs Developing and improving retrieval and knowledge systems Designing multi-step AI workflows involving agents, tools, and orchestration frameworks Evaluating and optimising model quality, reliability, latency, and cost Collaborating cross-functionally to deliver AI experiences that create measurable customer value Experimenting rapidly and taking products from concept through to production What They're Looking For 3+ years of experience building AI-driven or ML-adjacent products Hands-on experience working with modern LLMs, including commercial and/or open-source models Strong Python engineering skills Experience integrating AI capabilities into production systems Product-focused mindset with a strong appreciation for user experience and business impact Comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment Nice to Have Experience building agentic workflows and AI automation systems Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval architectures Exposure to fine-tuning, evaluation frameworks, or model optimisation techniques Location 📍 San Francisco, CA This is an onsite role, working closely with a highly collaborative team building at the forefront of applied AI. Salary $200,000 - $300,000 base salary + equity + benefits.
