About the Role
AI Engineer New York City Full-time About the Opportunity A well-funded, product-led technology company is quietly building some of the most ambitious AI infrastructure in market right now. This team ships AI-powered features that millions of users actually interact with. You'd be joining a small, high-caliber engineering org at a pivotal moment close enough to the founding energy to have real influence, mature enough to have serious infrastructure and resources behind you. The Role As an AI Engineer, you'll own the full lifecycle of AI-powered backend systems from architecture through to production. You'll work at the intersection of LLM integration, data orchestration, and backend infrastructure, partnering directly with product and engineering to ship features that are fast, reliable, and genuinely useful to end users. This isn't a role where you prompt-engineer your way through the day. You'll be designing the systems that make AI capabilities production-ready handling latency, scale, failure modes, and real-world edge cases. What You'll Be Doing Designing and building backend services that connect LLMs to product surfaces and data sources Making decisions about reliability, responsiveness, and scalability under real traffic Collaborating closely with product and engineering to translate user needs into AI-driven features Owning the quality and performance of systems end-to-end What We're Looking For 3+ years building AI-driven or ML-adjacent product features in production Strong hands-on experience with large language models (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source, or a mix) Solid Python skills and experience building robust backend systems A product-minded engineering approach you think about UX, latency, and real-world constraints, not just model outputs Bonus Points Experience building agentic systems (tools, planning, memory) Familiarity with vector databases and embedding-based retrieval Exposure to fine-tuning or model customization techniques Experience with streaming or real-time AI systems Understanding of LLM evaluation methods Why This Role Top-of-market compensation ($200k–$280k), a team that moves fast without burning people out, and a genuine chance to shape how AI gets built at a company that's growing. If you've been waiting for the right AI engineering role one with real scope, real impact, and real pay this is worth a conversation. Show more Show less
